IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Ankara, Nov 18, IRNA -- Head of Turkey's National Defense Commission, Oğuz Kağan Koksal says close cooperation between Tehran and Ankara for campaign against terrorism is of high importance.

In a meeting with Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis Ala'eddin Boroujerdi here on Friday, Koksal said expansion of cooperation between Iran and Turkey in political as well as economic, trade and cultural domains is necessary and highly important regarding special conditions governing the region stretching from the Middle East to Horn of Africa.

He said, 'Unfortunately, both Iran and Turkey are well aware of the issue.'

As a person with more than 20 years of experience in governors general offices in several provinces of Turkey and heading Turkey's general city caretaker for long years, I have had very close ties with Iranian friends, he added.

He noted that he has used Iranian friends' experience in security and campaign against smuggle of drugs , willing to expand mutual security cooperation while expanding diplomatic ties.

He said his country has gained valuable experience in endless campaign against terrorism. 'Mutual cooperation on either sides of the long friendship border would prevent terrorists to move, thus effectively helping to restore peace and security on mutual borders.'

Turkey and Iran fight PKK and PJAK respectively as both terrorist groups are fed from a single source, he went on to say.

It's natural for countries to have independent and different foreign policies but it should not prevent expansion of cooperation among countries, especially in the fields of health and human security, he added.

Boroujerdi for his part said Iran and Turkey have very good relations and Iranian Majlis supports government policy for all-out expansion of relations with Turkey.

He said the target of USD 30 billion trade volume by the year 2015 indicates growing cooperation, marking an important point in the Iran-Turkey relations to launch stern campaign against terrorism.

'Terrorism in any form and anywhere is condemned. Due to the same reason, Iran is unhappy with the EU move to bring the MKO out of its list of terrorist organizations,' said Boroujerdi, adding that the MKO has itself admitted killing 12,000 Iranian citizens. 'Iran believes campaign against terrorism would be possible in light of global resolve and it can not be treated politically.'

He went on to say Iran is seriously opposing production of atom bomb, believing that even a single bomb can jeopardize global peace because a day may come when another person like former US President Teromen would cause the Nagasaki and Hiroshima incidents.'

The Zionist Regime of Israel, enjoying more than 200 nuclear warheads, poses serious threat to regional peace and stability, he said, adding that Iran strongly supports the Middle East free of nuclear bomb, stressing all countries' right for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
