TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iran is paying most of the price of Afghan insecurity, said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast.

Referring to Afghan officials' request for Iran to take part in Istanbul meeting for Afghanistan's security, he said, "Afghans have called for Iran's active presence in the conference and they are going to manage the international meeting on their own."

"We stand by Afghans and we hope their security and economic infrastructures would be improved in the future. Afghanistan's stability can provide Iran's security and Afghanistan's insecurity can lead to Iran's insecurity as well," he said on Monday.

"Iran is paying most of the price of Afghanistan's insecurity and 3 million Afghans come to live in Iran every year."

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Affairs Mohammad Ali Fathollahi is to join Istanbul meeting on Afghanistan's security. Iran was invited for Istanbul meeting scheduled for November 2. The Iranian official is to attend the conference which is a turning point in providing Afghanistan's security.

The international meeting seeks examination of commitments and close cooperation of Central Asian states. Regional countries particularly Afghanistan's neighbors are to attend the meeting. Iranian officials expect the conference would bear fruitful results for the country's peace and stability.

Mehmanparast added Istanbul meeting is a preamble to Bonn II conference which is to make decision about gains in Istanbul meeting.
