Door still open to Taliban talks - Clinton
15:03 20/10/2011 MOSCOW, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - The door is still open to the Taliban for peace talks on the future of Afghanistan, or else they will "face continuing assault,” U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday.
On a surprise visit to Kabul, which started Wednesday, Clinton said the United States would not abandon Afghanistan after talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
"We are increasing the pressure on the Taliban," Clinton said.
She is due to travel on to Pakistan later on Thursday.
A new partnership between the United States, Afghanistan and Pakistan "must be part of the solution," Clinton said.
"That means ridding their own country of terrorists who kill their own people and who cross the border to kill people in Afghanistan."
