Commander, Task Force 53 Relieved of Command

MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- Commander, Task Force 53 (CTF 53) was relieved by Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Oct. 17.
Capt. David Geisler was relieved by Vice Adm. Mark Fox for loss of confidence in Geisler's ability to command CTF 53. An investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct continues. Capt. Jesus Cantu, deputy commander of CTF 53 assumed command pending assignment of a new commander.
Geisler has been reassigned to duties at Naval Support Activity Bahrain pending completion of the investigation.
CTF 53 provides fuel and supplies to U.S. Navy and coalition ships in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
