SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $68.6 million contract Sept. 29 to Harper Construction Co. of San Diego to build bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQs) at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
"We are very excited to get started on this project," said Richard Robnett, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project. "Harper Construction Company is noted for providing high quality and innovative design and construction, and we expect no less for this project."
Harper Construction Co. will provide the design and construction of two BEQs that will house a total of 860 Marines in the standard two per room configuration. Each BEQ will include a multipurpose community area and laundry facility.
"The goal is to provide a living environment and amenities that gives the Marines a comfortable place to rest and recreate, and provides a sense of home," said Robnett. "They have definitely earned it, and they deserve the best that we can provide."
The contract contains two planned modifications for furniture, fixtures, and equipment that increases the cumulative contract value to $75.5 million.
NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2013.
