SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $30 million task order Sept. 28 to RQ-Berg JV of Carlsbad, Calif. for the design and construction of electrical upgrade at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

"This project will provide a reliable electrical distribution throughout the entire base to support the growth required for Grow the Force increases in personnel and related new development," said Lily Pang, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project.

The current electrical distribution system at Camp Pendleton is out of date and this task order will provide a reliable electrical distribution.

"This project will provide a reliable, redundant, and efficient electrical distribution system to support the increase in electrical demand from the personnel, training, and operations at Camp Pendleton from the Growth Force Initiative," said Pang.

The work that RQ-Berg JV will provide includes labor, equipment, transportation, materials, and supervision. They will provide, design, construction, procurement and installation services for electrical upgrades. The upgrades will consist of multiple metering stations and other site work for substations, and multiple electrical distribution lines throughout Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

"Overhead and underground 12 kilovolts distribution systems will be constructed feeding all major portions of the base and providing tie lines between substations," said Pang. "The metering stations and distribution system that they feed will be base owned and will provide more flexibility, reliability, and a cost-savings."
