SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $500 million construction contract Sept. 22 to Pacific West Builders of National City, Calif., I.E.-Pacific Inc. of San Diego, Calif., NEI Contracting and Engineering Inc. of San Diego, Calif., Dimensions Construction Inc. of San Diego, Calif. and Bilbro Construction Company Inc. of Escondido, Calif.

The contractors are all participating in a multiple award construction contract (MACC) for new construction, renovation, revitalization, alteration and repairs of various facilities at numerous locations within the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest area of responsibility (AOR) that includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.

"This contract, along with all our other MACC tools, will enable [NAVFAC] Southwest to be responsive while still obtaining the best value for the taxpayers," said Dennis Wilkins, NAVFAC Southwest contract director. "The fact Southwest has been able to continually meet, or exceed, its execution goals for over a decade is directly attributable to the fact that Southwest Acquisition had the foresight many years ago to recognize the value of the MACC vehicles."

NAVFAC Southwest will issue task orders from the contract to conduct work. The contract is a MACC, which allows the five contractors to compete to win individual task orders under the contract.

"This contract is specifically set-aside for awards to small business firms. This helps to create jobs and grow companies the smart way," said Wilkins. "These companies were selected because they also exhibited a past ability to successfully accomplish prior projects on time and within budget. This type of format also requires the small businesses to learn to compete for awards."

Various task order statements will be awarded to the individual contractors throughout the time of the contract. The projects may include renovation of various commercial, institutional and industrial type buildings.

The expected completion date is August 2016.
