Protestors to rally in Cairo to 'reclaim revolution'
17:27 30/09/2011 CAIRO, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - Hundreds of protestors gathered on Friday morning in Cairo's central Tahrir Square for a rally dubbed "A Friday to Reclaim the Revolution."
The event, organized by the Revolution's Youth Union (RYU), will begin shortly after the traditional Friday prayers.
Protestors accuse the military authorities of slowing down democratic reform, and demand a clear plan for the transition to a democratically elected government and an end to military trials for civilians.
The mandate of the interim Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) expires on Friday and organizers expect a high turnout. Several influential opposition movements, including the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists, have said they will not attend however.
Weekly gatherings in Tahrir have been regular since the overthrow of former President Hosni Mubarak and his government in February.
The previous two Friday events have seen a relatively low participation, but the September 9 protest resulted in an attack on the Israeli Embassy. The incident, which dealt a serious blow to already tense relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv, also led to the reinstatement of the emergency law in Egypt.
