WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Experts in naval shipbuilding and logistics met in for the 14th Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP)-organized PEO Carrier Summit in Washington, Sept. 28.
The summit is a recurring forum designed to align programs and plans that support both in-service and future aircraft carriers.
"The PEO Carrier Summit gives us an opportunity to align the right support for the fleet," said Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich, commander, NAVSUP. "We also get a chance to brainstorm innovative ideas for carriers in service now and for future platforms."
In addition to NAVSUP experts, attendees included representatives from Defense Logistics Agency, OPNAV, Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Sea Logistics Center, Naval Air Systems Command, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, and Naval Air Forces. Attendees discussed outfitting and allowancing, maintenance, supply issues, and modernization programs.
"The PEO Carrier Summit is a tremendous forum for the CVN stakeholder community at all levels to gather and address the most pressing issues regarding current and future logistics concerns," said Capt. David Pimpo, NAVSUP Supply Operations and Logistics policy head.
"Examining ways to enhance fleet readiness with a focus on total ownership cost-reduction supports Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations, Sailing Direction tenents; warfighting first, operate forward, be ready," Heinrich said.
According to the Sailing Directions, using new technologies and operating concepts will sharpen our warfighting advantage against evolving threats.
"Events like the NAVSUP and PEO Carrier Summit strengthen our ability to proactively formulate a comprehensive plan to develop strategies that will yield huge aircraft carrier efficiencies," Heinrich added.
"The summit is refreshingly candid forum where iron sharpens iron and, at the end of the day, we walk away with a deeper understanding of the fundamental challenges and opportunities facing all CVN logistics stakeholders," Pimpo said.
