Iran invited to intl. conference on Afghanistan in Germany

Tehran, Sept 7, IRNA -- Michael Steiner, Germany’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, has invited Iran to take part in the international conference on Afghanistan, which is due to be held in Bonn in December.
Steiner extended the invitation in a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific and Commonwealth of Independent States Affaires Mohammad-Ali Fathollahi here on Wednesday.
In December 2011, Germany will host an international conference on Afghanistan in Bonn at the request of Afghan President Hamed Karzai.
The aim of the confab is to give impetus to political process concerning Afghanistan and cement the international community’s long-term commitment beyond 2014.
Preparations for the conference will be made by the International Contact Group on Afghanistan in close coordination with the Afghan government, with Germany taking the lead.
