Int'l consensus prerequisite for Security in Afghanistan: Iran

Tehran, Sept 7, IRNA -- Interior minister’s deputy for security affairs Ali Abdollahi in a meeting on Wednesday with Michael Steiner, Germany’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan said that international consensus is prerequisite for Afghan Security and stability.

Pointing to measures taken by Iran for stability and security in Afghanistan, he added that during the past 32 years Iran’s foreign policy has been to help bolster security and stability in Afghanistan.

“Interaction with all regional nations is the philosophy for Iranian foreign policy which by itself originates from the Islamic teachings,“ Abdolahi reiterated.

He said that about 92 countries of the world have three million population and that the Islamic Republic of Iran is hosting three million Afghan refugees.

The Iranian official said that Iran is currently providing 300,000 Afghan students with education which costs at least dlrs 100 each annually.

Abdollahi said that one million of the Afghan refugees are registered by UN High Commissioner for Refugees, but the other two million are residing in Iran illegally.
