August 30, 2011
Lithuanian and French officials say a French NATO plane collided in midair with a Lithuanian military jet today, causing the Lithuanian plane to crash.
Officials say the French plane managed to land after the collision, while the two pilots in the Lithuanian jet ejected before it crashed near the Zokniai air base in northern Lithuania.
The two Lithuanian pilots were uninjured.
France currently has jets based in Lithuania as part of NATO's air patrols over the Baltic countries.
