JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $15 million contract Aug. 3 to Pacific Tech - Sauer Joint Venture, out of Jacksonville, Fla., for design and construction of a single-bay hangar and training facility at Barksdale Air Force Base, La.
"This new facility will provide us increased capacity for training," said Senior Master Sgt. Jerome Sydnor, a weapons sanitization superintendent. "This will allow us to move indoors, out of the elements, to accomplish our training."
The new hangar will provide space for one B-52 aircraft and related weapons-loading training functions in Shreveport, La. Construction will also provide an administrative area with an auditorium and shop space.
The new hangar will have a reinforced concrete foundation, with a structure of steel columns and joists, an insulated metal exterior and a standing seam metal roof.
The project is expected to be complete by January 2013.
