US drone kills 4 people in Pakistan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Aug. 19, IRNA -- A US drone fired missiles on a house in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal region and killed at least four people, tribesmen in the region said.

The US spy plane fired two missiles at a house where militants were believed to be hiding at Bermal area, some 12 kilometers from Wana, center of South Waziristan.

Those killed belonged to the local Taliban group led by Mulla Nazir who were living in the house of his prominent commander Muhammad Noor.

The CIA-run drones routinely target suspected militants in Pakistan’s Waziristan tribal region which the US consider as launching pad for cross-border attacks into Afghanistan on foreign and Afghan forces.

Pakistan publicly opposes drone strikes but the US has ruled out any change.

Islamabad also seeks drone technology but the US not yet provided the technology.

The Friday strike was 48 in Pakistan this year, according to media reports.

A total of 439 people have reportedly been killed in these strikes.

The US claims most of those killed were militants but tribesmen say that innocent locals are also the victims.
