SANTA RITA, Guam (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Marianas awarded a $11.9 million firm-fixed-priced task order Aug. 15 to Schneider Electric USA Inc. of Palatine, Illinois to design and build an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system for DoD facilities on Guam.
"This award is a significant stride in the Navy's efforts to meet its energy efficiency goals," said Kevin Evans, NAVFAC/Joint Region Marianas energy manager. "This system, which will be tied to the military's infrastructure, will enable improved monitoring of energy consumption, provide accurate, real-time data necessary to analyze use, and design energy savings initiatives."
In order to accomplish these initiatives, the contractor will design, build, install, document and test an AMI system for electricity, water, and steam at Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam.
This initiative is one of many throughout the Navy and Marine Corps which will enable the Department of the Navy to achieve Secretary Ray Mabus' energy goals to improve our energy security and efficiency afloat and ashore, increase our energy independence, and help lead the nation toward a clean energy economy.
The work also includes development of platform information technology, information assurance (IA) documentation, and implementation of necessary IA controls.
This task order was awarded under a previously awarded design-build multiple award construction contract by NAVFAC Speciality Center Acquisitions.
Three proposals were received for this task order, and work is expected to be completed by August 2013.
