GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- The Virginia-class attack submarine USS Missouri (SSN 780) undocked from General Dynamics Electric Boat Aug. 12.

Missouri and its crew of 134 officers and enlisted Sailors arrived at Electric Boat Jan. 25. While at Electric Boat, the sub underwent various maintenance work and several system upgrades.

"The undocking is important because it represents not only a key event to our schedule but a key event in shifting our mindset back to being afloat. There is much more work to do between now and delivery," said Missouri Commanding Officer Cmdr. Timothy Rexrode.

Missouri is the seventh ship of the Virginia class. The Virginia-class attack submarine is the fifth U.S. Navy ship named after the "Show-Me" state. The last Missouri hosted the Japanese surrender ceremony that ended World War II.
