Palestinian militants attack Israeli troops in Gaza
12:29 08/08/2011 GAZA, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement claimed responsibility for the mortar attack on Israeli soldiers in eastern Gaza City on Monday.
The group said in a statement that the soldiers, who entered the occupied Palestinian enclave near the closed Nahal Oz border crossing, destroying Palestinian crops, were attacked with three mortars.
The attack is a "response to the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip," the statement said.
There have been no immediate comments from the Israeli side.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad is the second largest radical group in Gaza after Hamas.
