From Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet Public Affairs

NORFOLK (NNS) -- Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (COMNAVSURFLANT), relieved the commanding officer of the Little Creek-based Beachmaster Unit 2 (BMU), Aug. 5, due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.

Rear Adm. Dave Thomas relieved Cmdr. Robert M. Brown during an investigation into allegations of various ethics violations to include misuse of government resources and the improper disposal of government equipment. He has been reassigned to administrative duties at Navy Beach Group 2.

BMU 2 is now commanded by Capt. Michael Ott, the prospective commanding officer of Assault Craft Unit 4, and he will serve until the investigation is complete.

The COMNAVSURFLANT inspector general commenced an investigation following a complaint on July 18, and has substantiated two allegations of misuse of government resources at this time.
