JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $14.7 million contract July 28 under a previously awarded multiple-award construction contract to Sauer, Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., for work to be done at Corry Station, a part of Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla.

The work to be performed will provide renovations to existing spaces, converting them into office and data center spaces at Corry Station. The contract covers reconfigured walls, installation of suspended ceilings and floor coverings, and modifications to the heating and air conditioning system, and fire suppression system.

"The goal is to design a facility for which overall quality is higher, life-cycle costs are lower, and sustainability concepts and principles are incorporated to the greatest extent possible," said Paul Cook, project manager with Sauer, Inc.

Cook added that the preliminary whole-building energy analysis indicates the proposed facility design would consume 33.6 percent less energy than presently.

To achieve energy savings the contractor is incorporating occupancy sensors for lighting in most areas, installing low-flow plumbing fixtures, using high efficiency electronic lighting ballasts and implementing a direct digital control system to allow for scheduling, setback, monitoring, logging, trending, remote monitoring of HVAC systems and building utilities.

Work for this project is expected to be complete by October 2013.
