Taipei, July 15 (CNA) The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Friday it has yet to receive a highly anticipated investigative report that was expected by "mid-July" on the death of a Taiwanese fishing boat captain, but indicated that it is "coming soon."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) previously confirmed that the U.S. would release the results of its investigation into the death of Wu Lai-yu by the middle of the month.

Wu was held hostage by Somali pirates and killed during an exchange of fire between pirates on board his hijacked boat and the USS Stephen on May 10 in an anti-piracy operation.

Many in Taiwan have raised questions about the behavior of the U.S. in the operation.

"The report is coming soon," said Sheila Paskman, AIT's Public Affairs Section Chief, in a telephone interview with CNA. She was unable, however, to give a clearer time frame for the report's release.

Winston Chen, MOFA's director-general of the Department of North American Affairs, said the ministry has urged the AIT to release the results of the investigation as soon as possible.
