Abbas aide brands peace procces a 'trap' for Palestinians
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, July 5, IRNA -- A close aide of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said the western-backed Middle East process has become a 'trap' for Palestinians as the Israelis are continuing their land grab making it impossibe to come to a lasting peace solution.
Addressing a high-level security conference in the German foreign ministry in Berlin on Monday, Nabil Shaath stressed the peace proccess had become 'a trap for Palestinians and a justification for Israeli occupation to go on forever.'
He pointed out 20 years of negotiations with the Israeli side produced no results as the occupation of Palestinian lands was continuing.
Shaath added there was virtually 'no chance for a permanent solution' amid the ongoing Israeli land grab and what he termed 'the Israeli colonialization activities.'
He accused the Israelis of only wanting to drag out the peace talks with the aim of 'never reaching a permanent status.'
Meanwhile, Shaath vowed to press ahead with Palestine's bid to seek UN recognition despite western efforts to torpedo such a move.
'We hope that the UN will grant membership (to us) as as state,' he said, adding that so far 116 countries support Palestinian independence.
Reffering to the 'Arab spring' in the Arab world, Shaath pledged that the Palestinian
'spring' would come 'in September in the UN.'
He reiterated Palestinians were 'determined to get freedom and end the Israeli occupation.'
