ALI AL SALEM AIR BASE, Kuwait (NNS) -- Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, Detail Camp Morrell relieved the outgoing battalion, NMCB 26, on June 11 at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
The two week turnover process culminated in a Transfer of Authority ceremony at the camp.
Camp Morrell serves as a destination for Naval Construction Force units and personnel to transition in and out of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of operations. The camp has existed since 2003 and has expanded over the years to accommodate, equip, and train Sailors.
A typical inbound Naval Mobile Construction Battalion will receive weapons training at the local range, MRAP rollover training at nearby Camp Buehring, and final equipment issue before they arrive in theater.
For battalions on their way back home, Camp Morrell exists to provide facilities for Warrior Transition. Warrior Transition is a program designed to transition forward deployed Seabees back into normal life back home.
"Our Seabees on Camp Morrell are motivated and ready to continue to provide outstanding service and support to any and all personnel that pass through," said Senior Chief Utilitiesman (SCW) Shawn Holden, the Detail's assistant officer-in-charge.
Other duties and responsibilities of Camp Morrell personnel include camp maintenance, a full embarkation staff to facilitate the arrival and departure of units, MWR services, supply, berthing, and an Alfa Company tasked with managing a large amount of Civil Engineer Support Equipment (CESE).
"There is a significant amount of behind-the-scenes work that occurs here every day that is transparent to the personnel we accommodate. The challenge is the coordination of all these departments to ensure that deployed units enjoy a smooth transition whether they are headed to forward destination or have completed their missions and are headed home," said the Detail's officer-in-charge, Lt. Robert Clark.
