JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Seabees from Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit (CBMU) 202 Detachment (Det.) Jacksonville finished a seven month project to put up a pre-engineered building (PEB) inside the weapons compound for the Naval Munitions Command, Det. Jacksonville at NAS Jacksonville on June 20.

The structure is a 4,980 sq. ft. building designed to store equipment and keep it out of the elements. The project involved a majority of the Seabee ratings with project work that included site grading, concrete placement and steel erection.

"The Seabees from CBMU 202 use these types of projects to maintain basic construction skills while in a non-deployed status," said Ensign Mathew Ward, construction manager, Public Works Department (PWD) Jacksonville. "These projects also give junior troops a chance to work on crew leadership and project management skills that will help them advance up the ranks."

The projects are an added bonus for the station since the labor involved in the construction is essentially free. This allows the station to get more value from its construction budget as it supports the various commands around base.

This project was a 100 percent Seabee job once the design was complete. The Seabees completed all of the work from sourcing the materials needed for construction to fastening the last sheeting panel into place.

The Naval Munitions Command, Det. Jacksonville will now take possession of the building and use it to store large equipment out of the weather that otherwise would be left outside. Maintenance of the structure will be up to the Naval Munitions Command, Det. Jacksonville with the help of PWD Jacksonville.
