First round of Iran-Afghanistan security talks held in Tehran

Tehran, June 20, INRA -- The first round of Iran-Afghanistan joint security commission meeting was held in Tehran on Monday.

Several high-ranking officials including Iran's Deputy Minister of Interior Ali Abdollahi and Afghan Deputy Minister of Interior for Security Affairs Abdolrahman Rahman Monier took part in the two day event.

Several issues within the frameworks of Iran-Afghanistan security agreements were discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi left Kabul for Tehran late Sunday after a two-day official visit to that country.

Brigadier-General Vahidi arrived in Afghanistan on a two-day visit on Saturday.

The Iranian minister met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, President Karzai's deputies, the defense and interior ministers, as well as secretary of Afghanistan Security Council.

Vahidi and Afghan officials emphasized regional cooperation for stabilizing security and ensuring Afghanistan's development.

It was the first visit by an Iranian defense minister to Afghanistan.

Brigadier-General Vahidi's visit to Afghanistan was very important due to the current political and military developments in the Middle East.
