Iran, Afghan defense ministers issue joint statement

Tehran, June 19, IRNA -- Defense Minister Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi and his Afghan counterpart General Abdul Rahim Wardak released a joint defense statement at the end of their second round of talks in Kabul.

The two sides emphasized Sunday on enhancing bilateral defense relations and also holding annual joint defense meetings in Kabul and Tehran.

Part of the joint statement reads, Iran and Afghanistan would not allow any third country to use each of their territories against security, stability, territorial integrity, independence or political system of the other country.

Other issues discussed by Iranian and Afghan defense ministers included expansion and strengthening bilateral relations, confronting organized crimes, fighting drug trafficking and preventing narcotics production.

Brigadier-General Vahidi, who is on a two-day visit to Afghanistan at the head of a high-ranking military delegation, has met and exchanged views with senior Afghan political and military officials.
