NORFOLK (NNS) -- Supply Corps Fleet planners and senior-level operational planning personnel within the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Enterprise attended a fleet planner conference focused on logistics capabilities, June 7-9.

Approximately 25 personnel attended the conference, hosted by the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center (NOLSC).

The primary goal of the conference was to discuss NAVSUP's logistics capabilities and how they can be incorporated into fleet plans. Discussion centered on transportation, fuel, ordnance, contracting, material support, and subsistence requirements.

"All fleet planners were responsible for briefing [NOLSC CO] on their respective fleet's area of responsibility," said Lt. Carnell Aurelio, NOLSC fleet planner intern. "We also discussed fleet planner roles and responsibilities that link NAVSUP's capabilities with common and unique fleet requirements."

Highlights from the agenda included identifying best practices and lessons learned from Operation Odyssey Dawn, the earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan, and discussions on how NAVSUP and NOLSC can provide more tailored support to numbered fleets. In keeping with NOLSC's goal to be the NAVSUP Center of Excellence for Logistics Planning, this conference doubled as a training session tailored specifically for Supply Corps officers working as numbered fleet planners.

"Overall I think the conference provided greater understanding of planning as it related to the concepts and functions of the numbered Fleets and joint task forces," said Aurelio. "It was also an excellent opportunity to collaborate [in person] with the other Fleet Planners, which is often a challenge being that most of us work in various places all over the world."

Commands in attendance included Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers; Naval Inventory Control Point; Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Jacksonville; NAVSUP; NAVSUP Energy; Naval Expeditionary Combat Command; Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Troop Support; and NOLSC planners from each fleet.

NOLSC will continue to host the event annually.

NOLSC, a part of the NAVSUP Enterprise and headquartered in Norfolk, VA, is comprised of more than 400 military and civilian logistics professionals providing worldwide support in logistics planning, ordnance stockpile management, and transportation & distribution services.
