Multiple Contracts Awarded at Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded three contracts totaling $27.7 million June 3, for work to be done aboard Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island, Fla.
"Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island is extremely excited about the award of these three projects," said Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island Commanding Officer Col. Steve Peters. "Each of the projects increases or improves the installation's throughput and operational strategic prepositioning capacity, thereby greatly enhancing our ability to support Marine Corps war fighters in future deployments, redeployments and retrograde missions."
McCarthy Improvement Company of Davenport, Iowa, was awarded an $11.6 million contract for the construction of flat lots. The work to be performed provides for an extension to a hardstand staging area, a new container staging and loading lot, and a new container storage lot. This project is expected to be complete by May 2013.
Sauer, Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla. was awarded an $8.6 million task order under a multiple award construction contract for design and construction of a consolidated warehouse addition. The work to be performed provides for design and construction of a new one-story enclosed, ventilated storage warehouse, including climate-controlled office areas, an attached covered loading dock and an attached covered container processing area. This project is expected to be complete by August 2012.
Barlovento, LLC, a small business out of Dothan, Ala., has been awarded a $7.5 million task order under a multiple award construction contract for construction of a washrack expansion enclosure. The work to be performed provides for construction of a 48,029 sq. ft., 10-bay metal washrack with a standing seam metal roof, concrete catch basins, oil, water and sediment containment, closed-loop recycle system, pressure wash system and concrete pavement. This project is expected to be complete by November 2012.
