JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $24.4 million contract May 13 to Sauer, Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., for the design-build construction of a fitness center addition at Naval Station Mayport, Fla.
This is the second task order under a multiple award construction contract.
"Promoting good health and fitness to our Sailors and families is very important to us," said Capt. Douglas Cochrane, Naval Station Mayport's commanding officer. "We are providing our Sailors with an environment that will be beneficial to mental and physical wellness."
The work provides for substantial renovations, additions and site work for the existing Mayport Fitness Complex. The additions consist of new spaces for the fitness program and a new indoor aquatics training facility. The entire project is single story with the exception of a storage mezzanine option.
"Renovating our current fitness center will boost morale, create a healthy and strong backbone to our military and give our Sailors the unyielding ability to achieve mission success," stated Cochrane.
The project is expected to be complete by May 2013.
