Compiled from International Security Assistance Force Joint Command News Releases
WASHINGTON, May 18, 2011 – Combined forces killed four armed insurgents in an operation yesterday in the Taloqan district of Afghanistan’s Takhar province, military officials reported.
Troops were searching for an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan terrorist leader and weapons trafficker when a woman armed with an assault rifle and wearing an ammunition chest rack attempted to engage them. The security force shot and killed her just before another armed woman brandished a weapon at the troops. She also was gunned down immediately. A man and a third woman, both armed, then emerged from a nearby house and were killed after ignoring the troops’ call to put down their weapons, officials said.
Forces also detained two suspected insurgents who were seen fleeing the arIa.
