Iranian FM: Bahrain crisis cannot be solved through military means
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Baghdad, May 11, IRNA -- Foreign Minister of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi said in Baghdad Wednesday that Bahrain crisis cannot be solved through military means.
Salehi, who is currently visiting Baghdad, made the remark in his meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. He also called for due measure to be taken to respond to the Bahraini people's demands peacefully and democratically.
Salehi termed the presence of foreign forces in Bahrain as an inappropriate action.
Stressing the need for alien troops to immediately leave Bahrain, Salehi said their presence has not solved the Bahrain crisis but has further complicated the existing situation.
For his part, Maliki called on the Iranian and Iraqi nations to confront their enemies in the region.
On the critical situation in Bahrain, Maliki said the legal demands of the Bahraini people should be met.
He further appreciated Iran's constructive role in reconstruction of Iraq and called for enhanced bilateral relations in various fields.
Salehi arrived in Baghdad Wednesday morning on a two-day visit to discuss issues of mutual interest with top Iraqi officials.
