FM dislikes OIC silence over Bahrain crisis
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 11, IRNA -- Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said it was unlikely that Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) adopted a transparent and fair stand on the important regional issues including the situation in Bahrain.
In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Ali-Akbar Salehi said it was hard to expect the OIC to adopt a clear position on the situation in Bahrain given the existing dispute and disagreement among its member states on various issues.
He also rejected allegations that Iran was interfering in the domestic affairs of the regional countries.
The accusation against the Islamic Republic of Iran has been made by the West especially the United States.
The foreign minister termed such accusations as 'unfair and unjust,' and far from the truth.
He stressed that Tehran would never gain any kind of benefits from meddling in the internal affairs of its neighboring countries.
Rejecting any kind of impacts such accusations might have on Iran's principled positions, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that he had already expressed his views on such issues in clear terms during his meetings with the regional leaders.
Terming as 'important' the need to safeguard security in the Persian Gulf, Salehi said that Iran was in favor of peace and security in the Persian Gulf, adding that security in the Persian Gulf region will be achieved only through cooperation among the regional states.'
