TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iran called for formation of a fact-finding committee to probe into humanitarian situation in Bahrain.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a phone call with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Theo-Ben Gurirab, expressed grave concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Bahrain and called for formation of an impartial fact-finding committee by the IPU as soon as possible.

He said, "killing of people, abusing of women and demolishing mosques are catastrophic and instances of violation of human rights in Bahrain and urged the IPU to take a firm stance on the issue."

"Some regional states are accomplice in killing of innocent people as they sent military equipment and troops to Bahrain. The IPU should not continue to remain silent," Larijani said in a phone call.

Theo-Ben Gurirab on his part said, "what is now happening in Bahrain is dramatically concerning and an action is required to improve humanitarian situation in the country."

"Presence of outsider foreign forces and meddling of major powers in Bahrain does not help the situation and that foreign powers are only trying to secure their own interests there."

He also hailed the offer of Iranian Parliament Speaker and expressed hope the organization would take a measure in this regard as soon as possible.
