TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaigani condemned burning copies of Holy Quran and destruction of mosques in Bahrain.

He called for dispatch of a delegation from clergymen and clerics to probe into the issue.

Ayatollah Safi Golpaigani warned clerics of Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Afghanistan to be aware of insults of troops of al-Saud and al-Khalifa against Holy Quran who according to him have burned copies of Quran and demolished some 30 mosques.

“Today mosques are razed and Qurans are burnt by those who claim they respect and defend Islam and Quran,” the Grand Ayatollah said, adding that "the heinous act is not acceptable at all."

The senior Shiite cleric called these sacrilegious acts rare in the history and underlined,” those who claim to have defended Quran now are rebelling against Islam.”

Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have destroyed 30 mosques and more than 50 worship places and burned many holy books such as holy Book of Quran in Bahrain.
