SIGONELLA, Italy (NNS) -- Naval Supply Systems Command's Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Sigonella and Detachment 4, 9th Operations Group assigned to the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command (ACC) signed a master memorandum of agreement April 11 for logistics support and services for Global Hawk operations in Sigonella, Italy.
Under this agreement, Global Hawk will have the ability to utilize FISC Sigonella's logistical capabilities to support aviation fuel, hazardous material management, personal property, postal and contracting requirements in support of their mission in Sigonella, Italy.
"What we have done so far is put the fundamentals in place for continued support of operations here in Sigonella," said Air Force Lt. Col. Scott Coon, Global Hawk commanding officer. "This agreement will allow us to leverage FISC [Sigonella] in order to provide a full spectrum of logistical support for our mission requirements."
"I am thrilled to add Global Hawk to our warfighter customer base," said Navy Capt. Dana Weiner, FISC Sigonella commanding officer. "Partnering with FISC Sigonella allows Global Hawk to take full advantage of our broad range of products and services. Equally important, this agreement precludes the Air Force from having to expend scarce resources to establish and sustain redundant logistics capability."
ACC is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America's warfighting commands. It also provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations.
ACC numbered air forces provide the air component to U.S. Central Command, U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Northern Command, with ACC headquarters serving as the air component to Joint Forces Command. ACC also augments forces to U.S. European, Pacific and Strategic Command.
FISC Sigonella is one of seven supply centers under Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCS). FISC Sigonella provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
COMFISCS is comprised of more than 5,700 military and civilian logistics professionals, contractors and foreign nationals operating as a single cohesive team providing global logistics services from 110 locations worldwide.
A component of the Naval Supply Systems Command's headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Penn., COMFISCS is part of a worldwide logistics network of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel providing combat capability through logistics.
