Dutch oppose military involvement in Libyan war
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, April 1, IRNA -- Most Dutch oppose their country's military involvement in the Libyan war, according to a survey released by the website Dutch News.
Asked if the Netherlands should be involved in Libya, some 58.7 percent said 'no', while 35.8 percent supported it and 5.5 percent had no opinion on the issue.
The Dutch have 200 military personnel, six F-16 fighter jets, a tanker aircraft and a minesweeper taking part in the Nato mission in Libya, which is planned to last for three months.
According to the Dutch government, the Dutch F-16s are only being used to enforce the UN-mandated no-fly zone and will not participate in NATO's ground bombing campaign in Libya.
The Hague stressed it saw no reason for Dutch planes to be involved in the aerial bombings of Libya, alluding to the presence of American, British and French combat jets.
