Airbus Military creates national representations in additional home countries, with new appointment in France

Madrid, 22 March 2011

Following the model of what is already in place in France, Airbus Military is creating similar wholly owned national subsidiaries in Germany and the UK. Effective 1st April, Richard Thompson, currently Head of Airbus Military Customer Services, is appointed Head of Airbus Military UK, and Karl-Heinz Fuchs, currently Head of A400M Customer Services, will assume the same function in Germany. Furthermore, Cédric Gautier, recently appointed to become Head of A400M Programme, will succeed Alain Fontaine as Head of Airbus Military France. All three “heads of national entities” will directly report to Airbus Military CEO Domingo Ureña. Simultaneously, Philippe Galland will replace Richard Thompson as Head of Airbus Military Customer Services, and Stephan Miegel, currently Vice President Strategy at Cassidian, will succeed Karl-Heinz Fuchs.

The role of these subsidiaries is to be the Airbus Military focal points for all contacts within the respective nations, as well as to coordinate all Commercial and In-Service Support activities for all the Airbus Military products with the respective Air Forces and other national institutions. In the UK, Mr Thompson will also be in charge of providing Through-Life Support for the UK A400M and, through AirTanker, for the UK’s A330 MRTT (designated FSTA).

“The creation and reinforcement of the role of our Airbus Military national subsidiaries should enable us to strengthen our relationships with our national customers by being even closer to them. This should allow us to better address their needs both in terms of products as well as in services, and hence to enhance our responsiveness to their evolving future needs”, explained Mr Ureña.

Richard Thompson (57) has been Airbus Military Head of Customer Services for the last four years, and prior to that A400M Commercial Director. He is married with two children.

Karl-Heinz Fuchs (49) joined EADS Military Aircraft in 1992. He worked extensively on the Eurofighter, and since 2002 has been responsible for setting-up A400M Customer Services in both Madrid and Toulouse. He is married with three children. Philippe Galland (53) is currently Airbus Customer Services Vice President for Strategy, Business Development and Change. He joined Eurocopter in 1989 where he held a series of Engineering, Business Development, and Services positions until 2008. Mr Galland is married with two children and holds a Private Pilot’s Licence.

Cédric Gautier (50) has long experience in engineering and production with EADS-Astrium and then Sogerma where he became Head of Industrial in 2005, and was subsequently promoted to President and CEO of Sogerma in 2007. Mr Gautier is married and has four children.
