USS GUARDIAN, At Sea (NNS) -- Mine countermeasures ship USS Guardian (MCM 5) completed its second astern fueling-at-sea with the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204) March 19.

To remain at sea for prolonged periods of time, Guardian conducts underway replenishments to ensure that the ship has the capabilities to carry out the Navy's mission in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

"The first refueling was a good opportunity for training, and everyone showed signs of improvement on this one," said Mineman 2nd Class Wesley Akin. "The guys on the deck knew just what to expect and didn't require nearly as much instruction."

Guardian's current patrol of the U.S. 7th Fleet region has the ship sailing long distances to take part in various exercises, ensuring the ship maintains its combat readiness abilities.

Guardian serves under Commander Task Force (CTF) 76, the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious force. CTF 76 is headquartered aboard White Beach Naval Facility in Okinawa, Japan, with an operating detachment in Sasebo, Japan.
