TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei said the country is ready to host Afghan peace council meeting.

Speaking in the UN Security Council meeting with the Afghanistan situation in the focus, he said, "time set for the start of the US forces' withdrawal in July 2011 is an unjustifiable measure and that the withdrawal should not lead to establishment of military bases in the war-torn country."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to hold Afghan peace meeting through participation of Afghan political groups."

He stressed support for measures of the council and said, "existence of a safe and secure Afghanistan is in favor of its neighbors and further meetings in neighboring countries for peace and stability in the country are essential."

"Cultivation and smuggling drugs pave the way for activities of illegal groups, terrorism and extremism."

He called for the international community to take further steps to end the threat.

"Overall, presence of foreign military forces cannot help Afghanistan's peace and stability and provides the required excuse for extremist groups to continue war."

He also raised concerns over escalating civilians' deaths in Afghanistan.
