FM: Bahraini gov't should avoid violence against protesters
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 14, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Sunday called on the Bahraini government to seriously avoid practice of any violence against the people of Bahrain in the course of recent uprising in that country.
Salehi noted that it is expected from the government of Bahrain to treat the Bahraini people's demands rationally, Foreign Ministry's Press Office reported.
'The government of Bahrain should respect its people's rights with regard to pursuing their demands which are attainable through peaceful means,' he added.
Hundreds of people were injured in violent clashes on Sunday between protesters and armed pro-government civilians backed by police in the small Persian Gulf island nation.
The popular uprising in Bahrain began nearly one month ago when the people took to the streets of the capital city Manama calling on the ruling monarchy for massive reforms.
