SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The commanding officer of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 137, was relieved Wednesday, March 9, aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.

Cmdr. Kevin Harms was relieved as a result of an investigation that confirmed his failure to comply with a Department of Defense regulation. Commander, Carrier Strike Group 9, Rear Adm. Capt. David Silkey, deputy commander, Carrier Air Wing 2, has assumed command of VFA-137 until a permanent relief is named. Harms is awaiting reassignment.

VFA-137, assigned to Carrier Air Wing 2 and embarked with Abraham Lincoln, is returning from a six-month deployment to the U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility, supporting 5th and 7th Fleet operations including maritime security operations, theater security cooperation, Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom
