SAN LORENZO, Honduras (NNS) -- Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 28 and 2nd Marine Logistics Group (MLG) personnel concluded a four-day Southern Partnership Station (SPS) 2011 construction subject matter expert exchange with Honduran service members at Escuela Eneas Alvarado in San Lorenzo, Honduras, March 7.

During the engagement, U.S. Sailors and Marines worked side-by-side with Honduran army engineers performing electrical rewiring, plumbing pipe replacement and constructing a Southeast Asia hut (SEA hut) at an elementary school.

The SEA hut is a 16-by-32-foot wood frame structure with a metal roof, extended rafters and screened in areas, which can be partitioned and used as two classrooms for students at the school.

"It's been a great week building and working with our Honduran counterparts," said Chief Builder Estephan Garcia, NMCB 28 detail Bravo leading chief petty officer. "This is our first project here, and we look forward to our upcoming engagements over the next couple of weeks."

"This engagement goes a long way in America's continuing partnership efforts in the region," said Lt. Rama Mutyala, detail Bravo NMCB 28 officer in charge. "It displays our unity and commitment to building together and working as a team."

SPS 11 is an annual deployment of U.S. ships to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility in the Caribbean and Latin America. The mission's primary goal is information sharing with navies, coast guards and civilian services throughout the region.
