Tripartite meet review security in Pak-Afghan border

Islamabad, March 4, IRNA -- The Tripartite Commission comprised of senior military representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan met in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi on Thursday, the army said.

Delegations were headed by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army, General David H. Petraeus, Commander International Security Assistance Force and General Sher Muhammad Karimi, Chief of General Staff of Afghan National Army.

The participants reviewed the security situation in areas along Pak-Afghan Border and showed satisfaction in the existing level of cooperation, a Pakistan army’s statement said.

The forum also discussed various measures to further improve the coordination, it said, giving no more details of the discussion.

It is learnt that the recent exchanges of fire between the Afghan and Pakistani forces also came under discussion.

Both sides exchanged fire in at least two border regions.
