Egyptian Military Rulers Meet with Pro-Reform Panel

VOA News March 01, 2011

Egyptian military rulers met Tuesday with a delegation of pro-reform politicians, intellectuals, and businessmen to talk about the transition to civilian rule.

The delegation included pro-reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei and former Arab League chief Amr Moussa, who some Egyptians are already touting as a possible presidential candidate.

Media reports say the talks focused on constitutional reform and a timetable for new elections.

Egypt's transitional government has yet to decide whether to hold presidential elections or parliamentary elections first.

Some politicians are calling for a president to be elected before a parliament so no single party winds up dominating politics.

The Egyptian military's Supreme Council has been governing the country since a popular uprising forced President Hosni Mubarak to resign last month.
