Protesters In Yemen Demand President Step Down

14.02.2011 10:36

Reports from Yemen's capital, Sanaa, say thousands of students have taken to to the streets for a second day, demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Witnesses said security forces prevented the crowd from reaching Al-Tahrir square in the city center with razor wire. On February 13, police dispersed thousands of protesters who marched through the capital.

Yemen is one of several countries in the Middle East feeling the aftershocks, as pro-reform demonstrators take inspiration from the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.

Meantime, Saleh has postponed a planned visit to the U.S. later this month.

State news agency Saba reported the delay, saying it was "due to current developments in the region."
