Feb 8, 2011
In recent years, dozens of MMR units have been supplied to various local and foreign customers with a total value in excess of $500 million
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) recently successfully tested and fielded an advanced version of its Multi Mission Radar (MMR).
ELTA Systems Ltd., IAI's Group & Subsidiary continues to enhance the capabilities of the MMR, adding applications relevant to Weapons Location, Air Defense and Fire Control.
During the "Cast Lead" operation (from December 2008 to January 2009) a basic version of the MMR was successfully operated providing substantial support to Israel Defense Force (IDF) operations.
Since then, MMR has undergone a series of additional successful tests that proved the radar's versatility and growth potential. As a result, new versions of the radar were developed creating a family of MMRs. In recent years dozens of MMR units have been supplied to local and foreign customers, with a total value in excess of $500 million.
One version of the MMR is a key component of the "Iron Dome" active system used against short- and medium-range ballistic threats.
Nissim Hadas, Corporate VP of IAI and President of ELTA, commented that "the MMR family of radars, including the radar integrated in the Iron Dome battery, is based on most advanced modern technology, and provides unique capabilities and excellent operational results, placing it among the best radars worldwide."
