SEPANGAR, Malaysia (NNS) -- The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) arrived in Sepangar, Malaysia, for a port visit Jan. 28.

"Our crew has worked very hard on this deployment, so they are excited to have the opportunity to visit Malaysia," said Cmdr. Bruce Deshotel, USS Frank Cable executive officer.

While in port, Cable will host sailors of the Royal Malaysian navy as well as citizens of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Cable Sailors will also participate in community service projects that include building and repairing a house as part of the Habitat for Humanity project. Basketball and soccer tournaments between Cable Sailors, civilian mariners and local Malaysian teams will also take place.

"These opportunities will allow the sailors from both countries to share their experiences, build ties and develop professional relationships that only sailors who serve on the oceans of our world can understand," said USS Frank Cable Command Master Chief, Peter Kosloski.

This is Cable's first port visit since completing a year long repair period and Military Sealift Command (MSC) integration at Guam Shipyard.

"We had major systems torn apart, major components removed and many spaces gutted," said Deshotel. "To see that all come together is very satisfying for all of us. Now the crew can see the fruits of those labors in actually operating the ship away from home port. Sailing across a major body of water with zero problems is a true testament to their hard work and efforts."

Cable conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility.
