Sri Lanka denies its Navy personnel attacked on Indian fishermen
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
New Delhi, Jan 26, IRNA -- Sri Lanka Tuesday, denying that its Navy personnel attacked the Indian fisherman at sea, raised the suspicion that an unknown 'third party' may have been involved in the attacks to hurt the existing friendly ties between the two countries.
Addressing the media in Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu state, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, Prasad Kariyawasam said Sri Lankan Navy would not fire at Indian fishermen even if they had crossed the maritime boundary and suspected the role of some other group behind the incidents.
'The Sri Lankan Navy will not fire at Indian fishermen even if they had crossed into our waters,' Kariyawasam told reporters, ColomboPage News Desk reported.
Kariyawasam said Sri Lanka is equally concerned over the incidents and expressed hope that investigations by both governments would soon find the real culprits behind the attacks.
