Guantanamo Hosts Gunston Hall

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (NNS) -- The amphibious dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD-44) arrived at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to take on supplies and fuel Jan. 19.
Gunston Hall is operating in support of Amphibious-Southern Partnership Station 2011, providing subject matter expert training in several countries in the U.S. Southern Command Area of Responsibility.
"We will work with the partner nations to determine what it is they're interested in and where we can support, and we'll provide exchanges in those various areas," said Capt. Brian Nickerson, commander, Destroyer Squadron 40 and mission commander for Southern Partnership Station 2011.
The deployment will provide a variety of training opportunities for the host countries and the crew of Gunston Hall, including amphibious operations, search and seizure and damage control, said Nickerson.
