Larijani urges IIPU to defend Lebanese solidarity
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Abu Dhabi, Jan 19, IRNA -- Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani here on Wednesday called on the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) to support the true Lebanese solidarity.
He made the remarks while delivering a speech during the IIPU’s extraordinary session.
Larijani also called on the IIPU to help reinforce Lebanese resistance against the new American-Zionist conspiracy.
He urged member states of the IIPU to pay due attention to the rights of the Tunisian nation and help lift the Gaza siege.
The IIPU should not let western states turn Islamic states to their own bases, the Iranian speaker noted.
He underlined the need for countering approaches of extremist powers to create discord among the Islamic schools of thought.
Condemning the presence of foreign forces in several Islamic countries including Afghanistan and Iraq, Larijani referred to the assassination of several Iranian nuclear scientists as another shameful act by the West and the Zionists.
They are trying to create a new tension in the Islamic World in order to weaken the strength of the Muslim Ummah, he stated.
The IIPU meeting started today with presence of parliament speakers from Iran, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Yemen, Iraq, Indonesia, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Albania, Pakistan, Bahrain, Cameroon, Kazakhstan and Mauritania.
In addition to 17 parliament speakers, representatives from 37 Islamic countries are attending the event.
