Three opposition leaders to joinTunisian unity govt. - TV
05:03 17/01/2011 CAIRO, January 17 (RIA Novosti) - At least three Tunisian opposition leaders will join the national unity government being formed in the country, Al Jazeera reported on Monday.
Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi, holding talks with Tunisia's political forces, said Sunday the leaders of political parties could announce the creation of the unity government on Monday.
Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled the country after anti-government protests, dubbed the Jasmine Revolution, Friday. Ghannouchi first took over as the interim leader, and then parliament speaker Foued Mebazaa assumed the presidential duties.
The Constitutional Council called for early presidential elections in 60 days.
Sources close to the negotiating process said the founder of the north African country's largest opposition party, the Progressive Democratic Party, Ahmed Najib Chebbi, is expected to become the regional development minister.
Ettajdid (Renewal) party leader Ahmed Brahim is expected to take the post of the higher education minister, and the head of the Freedom and Labor Union, Mustafa ben Jaafar, is likely to receive the portfolio of the health minister.
Tunisia plunged into chaos in mid-December, when thousands of people took to the streets to protest the state's economic policies. So far, more than 70 people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in the riots.
